Welcome to Holly Hall
Tucked away on the edge of the village, this bed & breakfast
accommodation is down at the end of a private drive. A family
house, it has been occupied by the Heming Johnsons for the
past 25 years.
It is a perfect haven of peace and tranquillity enjoying pleasant
rural outlooks and distant views to the South Downs.
Built in the early 18th Century the comfortable characterful
house is furnished and maintained to a high standard.
Chelwood Gate is famous for being the home of Harold MacMillan
Prime Minister (1957-1963). Situated on the edge of the 6,500
acre Ashdown Forest used as Royal Hunting Forest by Henry
Tudor & Charles II, it is now owned by the Ashdown Forest
Trust. Several species of deer roam freely. Chelwood Gate
was originally a settlement giving access onto the Forest
via a 'gate' hence the name.
Carpets of bluebells scent the air in the garden and woods
in spring time. And there are many walks on the beautiful
Ashdown Forest. Perfectly situated for a relaxing break or
as a base from which to explore the many attractions nearby
- you may be assured of a warm welcome from Peter, Jane, their
family and dogs.
Glyndebourne is 25 minutes away by car and many of our guests
return each year during the Opera season.
With lots of colour in the garden during the summer months
and fresh flowers in the house this is a special place for
a short or long stay.
